Cannot install WinFX ( RESOLVED )

I've even got screenshots

Friday, September 14, 2012 by AceMatrix | Discussion: Stardock Support General

This is the first problem I've ever had with a Stardock install. The screenshots pretty much give you all the details, except for the fact that I haven't had WinFX installed in quite awhile. My registry is clean. I even browsed it to look for any keys that shouldn't be there. There are none that would pertain to WinFX. I use CCleaner all the time, and I've done several sfc/scannow processes. I'm drawing a blank as to what this could possibly be that is causing this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.   -- Ace --     (Win7 Ultimate x64 )

UPDATE: I'm thrilled to report that this issue has been repaired by Microsofts little ingenius tool called the "FIX-IT-CENTER"

I simply selected the box related to install & uninstall problems with WinFX. It automatically did a scan, found a couple corrupt registry keys and automatically repaired them.....YIPEEE !! IT WORKED !! Thanks everyone for all your input. I definitely appreciate all the responses.  -- Ace --

I assume you are trying to put the latest version on. Do you have the previous version archived and if so, what happens if you try to install it?

I don't archive any programs. If I'm not using a program it gets uninstalled and doesn't get to loiter on my machine anywhere. This is very strange. Nothing like this has ever happened before. I ran a complete system search and it found nothing pertaining to WinFX.

That's very odd and not an error I've seen before.  It looks like a Windows installer service issue though.

I suggest always archiving your Stardock installers. If you need to reinstall anything after your ODNT subscription has expired, you will no longer have access to them through SDC or the store.

Or . . resubscribe because you need the latest goodness and I need to pay for dance lessons for my kid.

I always keep my subscriptions paid well in advance. I'm obsessive about those sorts of things in my life.

That was exactly what I was going to suggest but did not know your flavor of Windows. That tool has been invaluable for me to fix many install/uninstall issues. As a community service, you can find it here:  http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/ It is an excellent tool to keep in your arsenal of problem solvers.
