Memory Issues
Sunday, September 2, 2012 by kona0197 | Discussion: Personal Computing
So I'm using an old Pentium 4 setup until I can get something better. Get this it uses DDR2-3200. Hard to find type of memory. So I was curious if DDR2-4200 would work. By the way does anyone have any memory they can part with? I'm only running with 512MB right now.

Thanks for the link. I'll look into it when I get some spending cash. It may be a long wait.

I have this:
Samsung 512MB PC2-5300 DDR2-667MHz Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5 240-Pin DIMM Memory Module Mfr P/N M378T6553EZS-CE6
and this:
edge 512 mb 46200-48
Not much help. I'll use the link above.

Looking for an old HDD. I'll see if I have one laying around. Maybe someone else will come by this thread who has one to spare?
2 GB RAM on it's way. Hope it helps.

I got a 1gb stick of 3200 and 3 sticks of 256mb 2100.... a couple of dozen sticks of DDR400 of varying amounts, 256, 512, 1024 mb.
Thing is, they're all here in Oz, but if push comes to shove and it'll help you out, I'll post the modules you need out of those I have.
I see RND has offered you some 5300, so let me know, okay.

Mark, I sent 2 GB of 5300 ddr2 that Crucial recommends for his PC. Dunno if that is all he needs.
Anyone having an HDD to spare feel free to post. He says his is going out, getting noisy.

Well I don't have any 5300 at all, so it's not likely I'll be able to help, then, as RAM values must be equal/the same.
I have some old IDE HDD's I ripped out of old machines that I acquired over the years [40 and 80 gigs mostly] that might help some. I did have some SATA drives until a few days ago, when I put a couple in a machine for my mother, and another for a nephew.
Thing is, if the IDE's 'll get you out of trouble, Kona, just let me know and we'll work something out.

Actually, he can run different values as long as it's ddr2. If he runs 2 sticks of 5300 and 2 sticks at 4200, they'll all run at 4200. But they will all work.

Starkers, thanks for the offer. However my hard drive runs on SATA.

Yeah, you're right. I'm not entirely on the ball today... had a rough night and didn't sleep too well.
Oh well, I'm a 'little' more alert now... sort of.

Kona, please PM me your email and I'll send you tracking info for your RAM.
I haven't found a HDD...sorry.
600.00 in repairs on my truck, which is in the shop as we speak. Else I'd contribute towards a HDD.

I was gonna buy an SSD for my lappy, and send him my lappy HDD, but the truck quit on me and now I'm having to use my money to fix it. [e digicons]:'([/e]

Quoting starkers, reply 16Not to worry, mate, I'm just glad that RND was able to assist with the RAM. Hopefully somebody will be able to come up with a SATA drive to help out.

You can't help that, so hopefully somebody else will pitch in and lend a hand. I already handed out the last of the SATA drives I had. All I have now are some IDE's.... which BTW, can be converted to SATA with a relatively inexpensive [$10 - $15] adapter/card.
Now there's an idea... how about somebody donates an old IDE they no longer need, and kona gets the adapter to convert it to SATA. If nobody in the US can or will do it, I have a 160 gig Seagate IDE that I could post, then all that would be needed is the IDE to SATA adapter.
In fact, kona, if nobody else offers and you can't afford an adapter, either, I'll get you an adapter to go with it as well. Just PM me if this would help you out and I'll start sorting out the necessary steps, okay!

Good grief man, I'd think you would be able to find that stuff for cheap.
