the first pic on the web

July 18th marks the 20th anniversary of the first picture uploaded to the World Wide Web.
Pictures were sent via email on the internet previously, but this one was the first one uploaded to the Web that could be seen by all.
Wouldn't mind a cent for every photo that's been uploaded since.... think that would keep me happy.... 
The group of ladies were lab employees who worked for CERN, a research lab in Geneva where major discoveries have been made, including the project that started the World Wide Web, and more recently, the discovery of the Higgs boson.
The internet's creator was looking to test a Web system that could support photos and asked the IT developer to provide an image.
Part of the reason the upload was so revolutionary was because the Internet was previously seen as a place for conducting serious business, not having fun. They could have had no clue what they were about to open the lid on, it's amazing how it has changed our way of life.

Yep...and around about 62 years ago the world's fourth 'computer' played the world's first 'electronic' sound ....
....and it still exists [the Computer, not the sound]...CSIR mk 1 [CSIRAC].
One good reason to head down to my end of the world....it's the only one in existence [and at the Melbourne Museum]....

I guess the people uploading pictures today aren't very creative. A lot of them pay homage to that one...

This day 20 years ago I did not know what the WWW or a computer were. I'd seen stuff on TV and in magazines, but the first time I touched/used a PC was early in 2004... and to think of all the eff-ups I made back then... unsafe surfing, messing with buggy proggies, touching shit I shouldn't have. Ah, those were [not] the days.
I'm a little more learned these days, thanks to folks like yrag and MadDeez [and others too many to mention] so luckily I make fewer mistakes these days and don't have my rig in the shop getting fixed... touch wood.

Seems like more than 20 years. I remember thinking who needs a WWW when you can just dial into the local BBS.
BBS's and CIM (Compuserve Imformation Manager) were already doing it, the difference being you dialed directly into their service.......anyone else have a 300 baud modem?
