List of features removed in Windows 8
Sunday, May 6, 2012 by JcRabbit | Discussion: Personal Computing
According to THIS article in The Register, Microsoft will remove the ability Windows Media Player has to play DVDs in Windows 8.
But that is NOT by far the only feature that will be removed from Windows 8. We all know about the missing Start Menu already, but THIS list is a real eye opener. I think we can safely say that Windows 8 will be the biggest flop since the invention of square wheels.

Well... they've lost me as an early adopter at least. Hoping they get blown out of the water, fire some idiots, and come up with something useful. Go go windows me.
Shame windows 7 is actually good. Well.. shame for them... really nice for my wallet.

Windows 7 for me was like having my neck relax when it's been completely tight for weeks. All the previous releases and my neck was tense weeks in advance knowing that all my friends, some clients, and my mother were going to be calling all the time until things got ironed out. Windows 7 was just smooth. I could even sleep at night. Looking at 8 I feel another headache coming on. Lord knows that I'm going to tell everyone who asks to stay away from it. Already friends and their businesses have switched to Macintosh in preparedness for Windows 8. One office, since their apple stuff is cloud based, anticipates no problem with cross OS document handling. (some day I need to learn about clouds)

Yes....and that'll weed out all those Eye Dee Ten Tee error people too when they get the famous "You must reinstall windows" message.
Can't say I see any dramas with what MS is doing with 8 ....it's just another Vista cock-up that will be 'fixed' on the next OS release.
The Metro interface is clearly a 'push' by MS into the hand-held market....at the expense of their current 'sheep' er...consumer base who will either bleat forlornly, make half-hearted attempts to escape the paddock to other pastures...or just wait [like me] whilst eyeing off the sheepdog suspiciously...![]()

It's such a brilliant strategy...
"Let's gut and scavenge our desktop user base so we can move in and compete with tablets--that's the future man!"
Meanwhile people who actually use computers for things like...oh, I dunno, "work" are left wondering if the WHO and CDC have been to Redmond yet to find out if this new mental disorder spreading through Microsoft is contagious.
I agree with Doc...I'm going to learn Ubuntu with Neo.

Yep, even The Matrix would have been BETTER with Windows....![]()

I like the BSOD at the end. Kind of what 8 looks like with those colored squares as cutouts.

Yeah the way things are going, mouse and keyboard drivers won't even be in Windows 9, it'll be gesture interface or nothing. "We are Windows 9 Kinect Edition. We will take your cash and your sanity now. Resistance is futile."

looks like microsoft it trying to idiot proof the creation of operating systems, but by the time the creation is idiot proof, not even idiots will want to use the 'creation' as it will be unusable, and windows HATE seems to be at the point of lost functionality AND desirability, and I am seriously looking at mint myself.

I'll be keeping Windows 7 instead of upgrading. I wonder if this will slow down PC sales.
Reply #33 Tuesday, May 8, 2012 11:03 PM
Yeah, I think PC sales will suffer with Win 8 pre-installed.
If people are having to buy a new PC for whatever reason, I can see it being much like the early days of Vista, with users reverting back to XP, but in this case it will be going back to Win 7.
Me, well I'm uninstalling the Customer Preview. I see no sense in taking up disk space in testing an OS I have no intention whatsoever of purchasing.
As for it being an upgrade, bah!!!! Moving to Win 8 would be a serious downgrade IMO, what with all the missing features and an abomination of a default UI in Metro.

Microsoft obviously knows better than you do what is best for you..

i dont know about that list...it just sounds strange, cant believe that they will remove these features and not replace them with something better it wouldnt make any sense

Since when does Microstuff make sense. I'm beginning to think they made Win7 work by accident.

Sad thing for sure. I don't see a single positive point on the direction that Microsoft is taking Windows 8.

Hey, might as well remove Explorer then. People can always use LiteStep.
It's not just WMP, it's their current complete disregard for backwards compatibility. Go check the list of stuff that has been removed in Windows 8.
