Help with making glass effect

I have paint shop 8 and am getting kind of tired of using plugins for glass effect. Can anyone teach me how to do it without plugins? I mean I can make a sphere look like a glass ball but that's about it. I've looked for tutorials for this kind of effect but all I can find are tutorials for glass buttons. I've noticed all kinds of tutorials if you have photoshop, but I don't. So can anyone help or am I just out of luck.. Thanks

check out this link for aqua gel buttons for paint shop pro.. http://www.sketchpad.net/cnvaqua1.htm Make a few of these It will give you an idea how to get a glass effect
