ObjectDock Free and CCleaner Issue

Saturday, February 18, 2012 by LightStar | Discussion: Stardock Support General

Just curious as to why the CCleaner (any version) links, (Open CCleaner and Run CCleaner), do not show up in the Recycle Bin in the dock when you right click on the Recycle Bin icon. CCleaner is set to show the links and this occurs in Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit. It works in Windows XP 32-bit though. They do appear if the Recycle Bin icon is on the desktop and not in the dock. I am using ObjectDock v1.90 Build 536, as I do not like the interface and layout of the newer version. Thanks.

Tom... is it a 32 bit CCleaner on the x64 Vista or an x64 version CCleaner? You should probably report the bug to Support, and you might find more answers in Piriform's Forums... http://forum.piriform.com/index.php?s=15c5020a8d712cb0d281dce134d49594&showforum=4

It's the same software installer Doc, there is no separate 64bit installer. It is supposed to auto-sense the OS on install. Not really a CCleaner issue because the links work like I said if the icon is on the desktop, they just do not work on the icon when it is in the dock. Also, it has been doing this for a couple of years, I just now bothered to post about it.

Curious....I just tried that and yer right...no CC entries.

That'll be because the Desktop Recycle bin isn't a 'shortcut' as such....but it is when it's put into the Dock.

Something for the boffins to ponder...

Funny thing. When you go to the ccleaner actual web site it says it's for 32 or 64 bit as you said. However I use the portable one and nothing gets installed on the computer but still works great. When you download that it's in a zip. Unzip and it has an .exe for 32 and one for 64. I just use the 64 as my system is 64. Also put an icon on the desktop and just drag it to my dock(s) then get rid of the desktop icon. As long as you keep the exe file in the same folder it will always work, but guess you all know that already.

Actually this might be a 32 / 64 bit issue.

I seem to recall ObjectDock is a 32 bit process and unless ccleaner installed a 32 bit shell extension dll on a 64 bit system as well as the 64 bit one then the links may well not show up.

Not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for replying Neil.

Why is there no 64-bit ObjectDock then?

Because one isn't needed.

It is not like it is going to use more than 2GB memory and having a single exe reduces installer size and the risk of odd bugs showing up in 64 vs 32 bit.
