All three browsers affected. Firefox, Internet explorer and Chrome......JEEZ!!!

Yesterday it was an issue with Windows update. I thought it was solved. It started out with two of my browsers not loading correctly. Today however its something more serious. IE, Chrome and FF are all being redirected to the Comcast billing site. No matter what link I click on or site in my speed dial they all go to Comcast. I believe it started when I opened yahoo. There was an ad on the page for comcast that didn't fully load. When I clicked on mail it started. I ran all of my utilities thinking I caught a bug but neither of them found anything. I opened MalwareBytes to run that one and as usual it needed to update its virus definitions, no problem as I've done that many times before. This time though an error message came up saying that there are files missing or corrupt. So In uninstalled MalwareBytes hoping to go for a fresh install. No go.
I used the system restore and took my laptop back to the 13th. thinking whatever is on it would be gone. Nope! Its still there and when I tried to open Windows update another error message saying it cannot access any updates. Windows update is not working, browsers are being redirected, uninstalling FF and rolling back to a previous version didn't work. Right now I can't use my laptop at all on the net. Is anyone else having this issue with browsers being redirected or is it a bug on my system. The only thing I can think of to do is use my rescue disk and pray it works.

Intel wireless lan driver ... intel proset ... Toshiba service station. The service station installed, no problem.

Disable the 'Service Station'. Do not install Proset even on the off chance it lets you.

Failing that, do it the old fashion way (there's no logical reason Win7 is seeing this);
right click/ Properties/ Driver/ Update Driver/ Browse my computer for driver/ Let me pick from list......
Find your adapter.
Can I assume there is no Toshiba Disk, just the Recovery partition?

Downloading both now. There is no Toshiba disk, just the Recovery partition.
Lan indicator installed. Stll the same thing with the network adapter. Why does it do that. Also ... I had gone to the Toshiba site and looked up the specs for my laptop. It listed the network driver as 802.11b/g/n. That's listed under realtek not intel.

if i good understand , there is problem with the wireless connection but he can use internet via cable ( network connection )...
Both setup teamviewer and take control remotely of his computer, making the job yourself... problem will be solved in les that a 1/2 hours ( unless there is other sh!t problem around but you will be able to see it )...
At least, setup some chat room where you can start a real interactive communication who will greatly improve the process...

I may be wrong Uvah, but if you did a complete reinstall the OS from the recovery partition everything should just work. Did you install the OS from the recovery partition, or a Windows DVD? If you did it from the DVD, you are going to have problems, you should restart and do a complete OS reinstall from the recovery partition.

Windows DVD. Win 7 Pro. The old one was Home Premium. If this OS in already installed wouldn't the recovery partition change all that. More imporantly, would it work because the OS is not the same. Besides I don't know how to do that.

I am pretty sure on a Toshiba there is a certain key to hit during boot to go into the recovery partition. Not sure what it is though on yours. I think my old Toshiba had it at the bottom of the screen during boot at one point saying "Hit ?? to enter Recovery Partition".
Once you install from there you should be fine. As far as running Home or Pro, unless there is really something you absolutely need to have in Pro, Home should be fine for everything you want to do.

True in most cases yrag, but he would be better off restoring from the recovery partition, and then if he really wants it he can upgrade to Windows 7 Professional using the DVD. That way any unique Toshiba stuff, drivers etc., should not be an issue.

If I knew it coud have been done this way ..... at any rate downloading and installing the drivers was becoming a real pain in the ass. Why that particular one acted the way it did I have no idea. Its creating a CRC file now ... if this don't work I'm gonna find a really tiny hole to hide in 'cause yrag will flay me alive!

Addendum ....... Turns out the network adapter is a RealTek, not an Intel. No wonder it didn't work. Duh!

Don't beat yourself up (that's my job).
The reasoning for installing a retail version is so you don't get all the trash that comes with the OEM (and the unpleasant task of getting rid of it all).
The 1st thing I do with any lap is throw the hard drive in a drawer, install an SSD and blow in a retail OS.
There is nothing in any OEM machine (be it desktop or lap) that is propriety to any computer manufacturer....all's they do is assemble the computer for you.

Okay ..... no more doin' stuff. Set up on both the network driver and the wifi utility does not run. The first dl with the video didn't run either. I dl'd that one a second time and it worked. The network driver I dl'd a second time and got the same result. No set up. What am I doing wrong?
