Object Dock Plus new release - tabs & settings disappear

Tuesday, September 7, 2004 by Steve Howard | Discussion: Stardock Software

I purchased OD+ and each time a new release beta or not appears the
settings and tab collections I created are gone.
What do I need to do to retain my settings from one release of
Object Bar Plus to another?

Thanks,

Steve Howard

First thing to remember is always save your theme, each time you make changes. But before I update to a new version I backup these files by copying them to the desktop. In the OdjectDock directory background.ini, DockThemePack.ini. ANd the 3 ini files in C:\Documents & Settings\user\Local Settings\Aplication Data\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus. ) All of these used to be in the OD folder, but not in the latest release.

I just bought OD+ yesterday, and I'm frustrated as hell. No matter what I do, I cannot save any dock themes. I've created tabbed docks, and regular docks and tabbed docks again. I have saved them upteen times. But, if I shut down OD, then run it again, my themes are gone. And that's that. This is getting old fast. I'm thinking maybe some kind of bug happened, and maybe I need to uninstall and reinstall. Any ideas? TIA

hiya dabe....if your PC shuts down faster than OD+ can save it's settings, when you boot up next time the dock is all borked. If you close OD+ prior to shutting down your PC, your settings will be saved. I haven't run into any manually saved themes not being saved. Any manually saved themes should reside in C:\Program Files\Stardock\ObjectDock\Themes and be available to for loading

Essencay, I'm not shutting down my computer. Just shutting down OD. Also, I did check my themes folder, and all the themes I created are listed there, including test and test2. And, the Theme loader in the program itself, does list all the themes. But, if I load any theme at all, I get an empty theme, with not a single dock listed in the My Themes dialog box. Of course, I have the option to create new docks, which I've done over and over and over. I've spent hours on this. I think I'm gonna just uninstall and reinstall the program. Something's not working right. Of that, I'm sure.

Yep, I feel your frustration.....just spent two hours trying to figure out why DX widgets didn't work, but as soon as I posted and roll-back two versions....It worked again. Uninstall - Reinstall sounds like the best option. Silly question, but just in case...if you had the free version of OD installed, it needs to be uninstalled before installing OD+, goofs up things a little bit.

Essencay, for starters, I had not uninstalled the free OD. But, I did uninstall everything, then rebooted, and reinstalled OD+. I think I've got it all sorted out. Now that it's working, I'm setting it all up again. I'm having fun. Very cool program!

OK, my next problem with OD+
Now that I've got it saving themes, it just continually, for no apparent reason, shuts itself down. I'll run it again, then go about doing something else (surfing, etc.), go back to access a tab, and it GONE. Shut down. Yet another frustration........
Any ideas? Koasati? Anyone?

The developers are currently working on this bug.  I seldom have this problem with OD+, but it does happen. .......btw... whch version and build are you using?

Nasty lil' bug. Glad to hear they're working on it. I cannot do away with MS start bar until that's fixed, unless I use another program, as well, like OB.

When I reinstalled OD, I immediately upgraded to the latest build, via SDC, before I made any themes. I didn't want to go throught the whole shebang all over again. And, I'm glad I saved the icon folders before uninstalling. I would have lost a ton of already downloaded icons and themes. Thanks for the heads up.

I immediately upgraded to the latest build,

If you have show pre-release versions checked, you may want to uncheck that and install the 1.04a.005 release version. The last 3 beta release are experimental beta for people trying to help track down the crash problem, and from what I've seen on the newgroup, they're quite buggy.

Koasati, I'm not sure who to report this to, but that nasty OD+ bug that keeps causing it to exit........

Well, there is something about Mozilla Thunderbird. If I'm reading my mail, then shut down either a message, or the program itself, it's a sure bet that OD+ will also shut down. I've tried this over and over, and sho'nuff, every time it's the same thing. I don't know if that is specific to my computer, or if it's Thunderbird, but I'm hoping it will be useful to the developers. Let me know what you, or they think.
