Pin To Start Menu Missing
SKS 7 Pro
Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by RedneckDude | Discussion: SkinStudio
Hey guys, strange thing. I just removed Impulse from my system, and installed all the apps from SD Store.
Skin Studio 7 Pro has a generic icon in the all programs menu (which I can fix), and what's worse, when I right click the shortcut, to pin to start menu, that option isn't listed.
It's there for the other SD apps, just not for SKS.
Small thing, but it should let me pin it to my start menu.
Pin to start menu, and pin to taskbar are both missing.
Windows 7 64 bit.
Edit: This happens on all 3 OSes.

Hi RND ,
Here is a tutorial that I posted on another thread awhile back. It will resolve any issues for fixing or adding "Pin to" shortcuts.
here is a little tutorial you can follow to solve any "pin to taskbar" or "pin to start menu" issues.
1.) Right-click on any open space on your desktop screen
2.) go to "New" > then choose "text document"
3.) name the text document anything you like ( something relating to the app. that you are creating the shortcut for would be best, just make sure it is a little different from the original name, as some application names omit the "Pin to" option in the right click menu for some odd reason.)
4.)Next , you will want to change the extention from .txt to .exe , so again right-click > rename. A warning will pop up asking if you really want to change the extention, say "yes"
5.) now you should see a default icon with the name "whatever.exe" > now, right click on that and you should see the options to "pin to taskbar" and "pin to start menu" options.
6.) now, after you have "pinned", go to that icon in either the taskbar or start menu or wherever you pinned it ,and right-click and choose "properties"
7.) here is where you set the path to the target program. Enter the path to that program in the "Target" box. Make sure to include the quotation marks ( " ) An example of the path to type would be similar to this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\IconPackager\IconPackager.exe"
IMPORTANT NOTE: right below the "Target box" is the "Start In" box. The only thing that you should type in this box is the name of the drive that your application is installed on. for example on my PC it would be ..... C:\
but some people have their drives named differently. Just make sure you type the name exactly in this box.
8.) o.k. , now you should have a working shortcut right where you want it, but you still have that ugly default icon. So we want to change the icon to something more appropriate. So , once again right click on the shortcut and click on the "change icon" button. Navigate to an icon you like and apply it.
Well, that's it. This will work for any shortcut you want to create or repair for your taskbar or start menu. You can even create a taskbar short cut to one of your hard drives by using this same procedure. The sky is the limit. Hope this helps you.

Worked like a charm Ace, thanks.
I would still like to know why I had to do all that, since it should have let me do it to begin with. Everything does.

I also had the same issue after re-installing SKS. I fixed it using the same procedure from my tutorial above.

I don't know the reason why RND. IconPackager also has the same problem, so I use this work-around to thwart the evil nomes that cause these probems.

I keep all my SD stuff on a tabbed dock. Just bounce down to the bottom and click ... there it am.

That is appreciated. I just hope a support person sees this thread and fixes it.

A note to SD Support asking for the problem to be passed to Neil might get you a quicker response and result, Jim ![]()

Yes, something changed and the pin isn't working at the moment.
BUT here is a easier temporary fix.
1 - Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\SkinStudio
2 - Copy the original file "SkinStudio.exe" to the the desktop.
3 - rename it to "SkinStudio 7.exe" and move it back to the SkinStudio folder
4 - Now drag it into the taskbar and done.

Or:
Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Object Desktop\SkinStudio
Rename the SKS exe to SkinStudio 7.exe
R-Click on th SKS icon in the start menu and select Properties.
Change the target to point to the newly renamed SkinStudio 7.exe. Apply the correct icon if needed while there.
Now the Pin to options will show.
Thanks to Ace and danilloOc for the tips.

We are aware of it now and will see what can be done.

My pleasure. As you can see, the key here really is to rename the executable , why that makes a difference has me baffled. -- Ace --

Just as an after thought here, I was thinking that maybe it's because it is nested in the Object Desktop Package. Maybe someone could try downloading and installing as seperate stand-alone programs and see if that makes a difference. At least something for Support to experiment with. -- Ace --

Does the icon work to launch SKS?
