Sticky Notes, Object Dock and Win 7 64-Bit

A quick fix guide

Monday, December 26, 2011 by Cyberworld | Discussion: Docks

This is not a question or an extensive guide, just a quick resource for a workaround an issue.

Apparently when you want Sticky Notes to run from Object Dock, you can't point the shortcut to the usual address of the application which is this:

C:\Windows\System32\StikyNot.exe

I looked around the web for a solution, but couldn't find one, so I started experimenting. The solution is very simple. Just point your shortcut to this address:

C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-stickynotes-app_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_493ba8a4d2fc9697\StikyNot.exe

Problem solved! I hope this helps some people.

Indeed...I've been away for a long long time...I'm back occasionally now. Still active in design, but gearing all energy towards research now.

Thanks for the handy tip.

You get a similar error when trying to add Snipping Tool. Do you have a fix for that as well?

I don't use the Snipping Tool, but it is a very similar process. Try this: C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-snippingtool-app_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_f5b8f3d6a353fa89\SnippingTool.exe

In general programs that don't seem to work in 64-bit, do retain a copy of themselves somewhere in the Winsxs folder for backwards compatibility with 32-bit programs.

You can add a shortcut for Snipping Tool by using this link:

C:\Windows\Sysnative\SnippingTool.exe

This will allow the Snipping Tool to funcion in ObjectDock.

Hope this helps everyone.

You beat me red... I hate typing alphabet soup and like that way better. Works great. Either way it has something to do with linking anything in the system folder - to prevent bugs and exploits and all that. (then why can't they use the sysnative route?)
