How do I apply IP icons to my desktop shortcuts?

I tried applying them the old-fashioned way by going to each shortcut's properties, but no luck. I guess you can't get to the icons directly since they're inside the *.ip file? I'm using farkusmarkus's Fred icons. Thanks.

open up the ip file in icon developer and save as an individual .ico any icons you want to use with your shortcuts
