Newer Mainboards Motherboards able to boot from usb-sticks?

Hello, was told it would be possible to boot from usb-stick and do your average windows7 xp vista installation from a usb-stick.
A friend bought a new pc with a gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P intel Mainboard socket 1155- And has a dvd writer that is (IDE at home)
The only problem is that the board has no IDE slots...thats why iam asking if its possible to boot via usbstick from this mainboard?
The pdf manual only mentioned external usb HDD.

It doesn't matter and is irrelevant to the installation of an OS from USB.. IDE [Integrated Drive Electronics] is the controller that provides a data pathway between the motherboard and connected drive... these can be SATA, PATA or IDE drives.
To boot from USB you need to boot into the BIOS and select Boot Options, then set 'First Boot Device' to USB in the menu provided. Once done, plug the device in and the PC can be booted from a USB containing an OS installation.

hey thanks wizard and starkers i used the MS tool W7 USB DVD tool.. and a 8 gig thumbstick- its working fine on my rig and on my very old Asrock Penryn board...
So i guess if it works on a 5 year old MB -it should work fine on a brand new board aswell.
Just wanted to make sure The fun thing is that the thumbstick doesnt get noticed by my old board in the bios itself...
But it still works using the boot option (usb : ) while the bios only shows available usb hard disk drives internal external and not the thumbstick.

As for the board being able to boot from usb, check the boot devices in the BIOS setup, you may need to set usb as first choice.
Otherwise, I see nothing on the Gigabyte site that would indicate that this is not possible.

Also, you could use an adapter and use the IDE drive on a SATA mobo, here's one.LINK
