Is this possible?
Monday, November 7, 2011 by jayde_drag0n | Discussion: OS Customization
Trying to help someone recreate this. Is it possible and what tools would be needed? Any input welcome, even if its coding!

yes it is a picture of what the person wants to customize. The start orb in the CENTER of the taskbar, with a customized menu with horizontal panes. Is the gif not working? It should show the concept

Edit: I think something similar cuold be done in SKS by a REALLY skilled skinner, It would take some trixing with transparent pixels left of startmenu and the lists would have to be cut in a very special manner, perhaps with Several layers.... Don´t think I could though.... Stardockstaff maybe could.
NEIL BANFIELD would know more...

I know right?! Totally cool concept, but trying to figure out how to actually accomplish it is blowing my mind. And now I want to do it too because it looked so neat. I found a couple ways to center your quicklaunch icons.. but nothing on the start menu itself. And none of the key phrases i've chosen to search with in google produce what I am actually asking. Move start orb.. or menu..just tells me how to move the taskbar around the screen :-/ ~harrumpf~

As far as i know you can set the startbutton to the center in windowblinds sadly it´s for uis2/1 skins -
Settings advanced settings : i want to force the startbutton to be position in the middle of all skins..

Can and have been done but it requires some serious hex-editing - and I can't recommend it. Might rather break your system files than get you want you want.

@snowman can you link to the previous attempts?

That's the sort of thing Alternate Shells are good at. Rather than hex/hack/mangle Explorer [the shell] you dump it and run an alternative....![]()

Maybe some creative skinning
not perfect but the concept is sound! ![]()

Or you can do this and just get rid of the taskbar. I have a windows button that toggles the start menu and the one to the left toggles the taskbar for easy access to the tray. You can use any dock you like and just place the start and taskbar buttons centered on the dock. I know its not what your asking but in my opinon its better.

I personally love the original concept that posted here. I can say without a doubt, I would fall all over myself just trying to get a copy if it were ever created/published. --Ace--

Hi guys!
I'm the one who made the GIF, and also the one looking for a solution for this.
I posted the GIF + info (@ http://www.reddit.com/r/customization/comments/m3p2y/is_it_possible_to_move_the_start_orb_menu_only/ (hence the name mczcourge = minecraft + zCourge)) and jaydedrag0n here helped out a lot by posting this to several sites and forums, including here on WinCustomize
I just want to say thank you all for all the help so far! Awesome examples in this thread, and when I have time I'll surely test out SKS!
Again; thanks for all the help guys, you're really helping out real good!
