You know, on this website we've debated everything..
Well...not everything. We've debated politics. We've debated ethics. We've debated capitalism (many times).
But we haven't ever discussed religion. Can you believe that?
My son asked me this weekend what happens to people when they die. I copped out on it and said that I didn't know because I haven't died before.
But it got my wife and I thinking. What happens after we die?

MisterMe why would you "want" to grieve in Heaven? By the time you leave this world you should be pretty full and ready to try something different.
I don't really think I'm going to make it to Heaven, but if I did I certainly don't want to be grieving over anyone or feeling anymore bad feelings, I want to leave them all behind.

Hmmm...I don't know. I guess I feel like *not* grieveing is simply, well, inhuman. And like I said, I'm not willing to give up my humanity.
Now, I appreciate the whole evolutionary thing. That we'll continue to evolve, and the face of humanity will change. But I don't think we'll ever grow out of emotions. At leat I hope not. To me, that's a very sad thing. The truth is, I *want* to feel.
And here's another something: What good is happiness when not contrasted against sadness or despair? Happiness loses its oomph when it's not in direct competition with sadness. So what's the point of being happy when you no longer hold the potential for sadness? Answer: None.

I think we only have that now, so we can see the difference and make some choices.
We will be Heavenly beings and perfect and so will our surroundings be.

If you are a good person in life, you will be remembered, missed, and loved in death, ergo, you will live on...in the hearts and memories of others.
For yourself, before you die, you will know that you will be remembered....that is the 'heaven'.
As for you as an animal, there is nothing.
I may sound a little deep and meaningful.....one of the riders at the GrandPrix meeting was killed on Saturday in one of the local support races.
Life is precious...it deserves respect....

I don't want to be just remembered I want to fly someday! sheesh Jafo you're spoiling this for me...
someday "if" I make it in Heaven I am going to fly and worship my Heavenly Father.
I've seen ppl believe in crazier things like my neighbor thinking he is going to hit the lottery this week... hehe

...and I suppose what it really boils down to is what you choose to believe in... Eventually, we'll all know the answer (or we'll be nothing and won't know a thing ).
If I'm still 'around' after death, I wouldn't mind
visiting Tir na Nog and meeting Brighid and Lugh. Some ancient Irish beliefs hold it as the afterlife’s most idealistic environment. Paradise there consisted of feasting, revelry, music, and sexual intercourse.

I believe that death is the same as when you are put out for an operation. You just cease to be. you never knew that you existed.
Heaven and hell are already here on Earth- good times are heaven, bad times are hell.
The only "after life" I can somewhat believe in is the OverSoul. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, so when you die, your energy returns to the oversoul to be distributed to another living thing.

Ugh...Reincarnation has always interested me; I even believe in it after a fashion. But recycling? I don't think I like the idea of my soul being recycled...

I am too tired to read the whole thread, but in some ways I believe in the idea that when we die our bodies fade away but our conciousness goes on. So if you where are architect in life you spend eternity building cities in your mind, and etc.

personally i accept the existance of God and existance beyond existance on this planet as an observed fact, in the same way that i accept the existance of the table infront of me as an observed fact.
as for what happens, think of it like this. God is all knowing, for God is the synergistic whole of everything. however, there is always more to be, to do and to experience, so God is always growing.

I do not believe in ANY gods, or any of the paraphenalia that go along with them. I dislike ANY forms of religion, they are the cause of more death and unrest on this planet than anything else. I abhore the atrocities performed in this world and the pathetic attempts to justify them in the name of some religion or other. When you die, it's over, forget about it. Religion is just an appeasement of your own insecurities about life on this planet. I don't have to hope that there is some all powerful being that will look after me when I die, because I can face up to the aforementioned realities of life/death. And don't start flaming me for my beliefs, I am as entitled to them as you are.

When your are not close to death, you may say many "clever" thoughts or you can say thoughts that belong to others.
I can't understand why death belongs to religion... we have so many scientific opinions too.
I think, that death belongs to all of us, not to religion, not to science, therefor, it is very important to think about it more seriously.
I know, you may say that it is better to think about life and not death, but believe me, if you think about death, you going to live your life better!
