Weird problem, I am having

I apologize for the little yoda reference but I'm watching star wars 
Okay up until a couple of days ago I have had no problem downloading from this site or any other, but now whenever I try to download ANYTHING from ANYWHERE, I get a popup window that says that the compressed zip folder is invalid or corrupted, and that's all that ever happens. This happens when I use my sbc yahoo browser.
I was thinking that there could be something interfering with my download capability altogether, so I went into mozilla firefox and tried the same sites and same downloads(also others), but I find no problems in mozilla, and also no problems in ie6.
Does anyone know what could be causing this problem?

Try clearing your Temporary Internet files and also deleting any Temp files.
You might also think about any programs you installed or changes you made just prior to the problem.

Okay all the temp stuff and cookies are gone.
I can't think of any changes I did make prior to the problem, it just sorta came out of nowhere.
Well I just tried to download and it's still not working on this stupid browser, which is not good cuz that's where all the stuff downloads fastest.

I think it has something to do with proxy settings....not an expert on this....but I used Yahoo's version of messenger once and was not able to share files with the person I was talking with. Sorry couldn't be more help, I haven't used any Yahoo products since.

It may be something with the Yahoo browser. I haven't used it so I really couldn't begin to tell you where to look other than maybe a reinstall of the program?

Sorry Derek...went off to do a backup....I never heard of a browser having it's own firewall, but it wouldn't be the first thing I never heard of. It sounds like your 'Download on Demand' feature has been turned off. Try this ...empty this folder: C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs and see if it makes a difference.

in xp pro corporate would it be called inf? because i don't see anything called internet logs, i did however find a folder named security and inside it was a folder called logs

You should have the Internet Log Folder 
Stay away from that Security Folder....it's an Administrative Folder. Look in Internet options and make sure 'Enable Third Party Extensions' is checked...

Wait a minute....'xp pro corporate'...are you sure your Corporate Administer didn't kill your ability to download anything?

Ok I found third party browser extensions, and it was still checked, I also found 'Enable Install On Demand [Internet Explorer]' and have rechecked that and am restarting now to see if it helps, will post the results...

'xp corporate'? explain. only time i've heard that label was in pirated copies, corporate was a version with no activation. if that is a pirated copy, that could be your source for any number of problems.

There is a 'Corporate' Edition, but it's licensed under a master license. It can be on his Lap, but it would have to be tied to work and thus activated by them. If that's not the case, then you're right about his problems and that it's a 'cracked' version. The 'Corporate' name is kind of a misnomer in that it takes 'crack files' to over ride the Corporate Administrator and make it work as a consumers XP Home/Pro edition.
I also look forward to him telling us what he actually has....

Well, I had a problem with xp home where it would not start up, so I took it to a local fix-it guy in town that is known for good repairs, and when I got it back that's what he told me was on it...
See the main problem with the xp home situation is when it wouldn't start up the tele-support told me to format, and this wouldn't even work, so I took it up-town to that guy, and it had been working fine, but now that I know it is a cracked version, it's not going to be working at all, because I'm heading out to get a new xp home, or a genuine xp pro.

You should have your original XP Home disk or, at the very least, a restore disk.
Why not re-install?
Or if you decide to go to XP Pro, you can get the upgrade for a lower price than full version.

Well I tried that but for some reason the original install won't go away, it keeps sayin something about unremovable traces on the hard disk

XP Pro is on the way so hopefully that'll fix the problem.
