PNG with Transperency for ObjectDock

How do i create PNG with transperency for Object dock. I tried using photoshop and thought color rgb(0,0,0) would make it transperent..but it ends up as black.
Any tutorial on this would be nice..

Photoshop does not allow me to save an image as png without flattening the image. The moment I do that the transperent ( checked background ) becomes white. How do I over come this?
Also when I save a PNG i get the following options
Interlace-
( ) none
( ) Adam7
-
Filter
( ) None
( ) Sub
( ) Up
( ) Average
( ) Paeth
( ) Adaptive

Make sure all the layers are layers(not background).
Make the bottom layer(probably Layer 1)transparent.
Merge layers(don't flatten)
Save as png

If I don't flatten the image then I can only save the image as *.psd.
Would you mind telling me the steps you follow to make the a transperent PNG in Photoshop.

Don't know if this will help, but when I make a .png file out of an icon I open it with IconDeveloper, right click on it and them choose export image as...then save it as a .png and with certain icons that seemed to have a black border or background to them it was rendered transparent.

I tried to use black RGB(0,0,0) and it is not transperent. But when I load a PNG file that has transperency then its is show with one layer and the transperent color is either 0,0,0 or white(255,255,255).

What version of PS are you using? I can merge my layers and save as any number of formats.
Here are the basic steps I use:
Open new file, put in the size you want (larger than the object you plan to make), default resolution (probably 72 pixels/inch), and be sure transparent is ed in content (choices should be white, background color, and transparent).
This will be named Layer 1 in your layers window. Add a new layer, which will be Layer 2. Make your object on layer 2 adding more layers as needed. When finished, you will have at least 2, maybe more, layers.
Choose Merge Visible (not Flatten Image). You will still see the transparent portion around your object. (checkerboard pattern)
Choose Save and PNG in the format drop down list.
That's it.

Try using the "Save For Web" option instead of the normal "Save" button.

in Save for Web, choose from the file type drop down a PNG. make sure there is a check in the transparency box. when you hit save, double check the file type is going to save as a PNG.
if photoshop lite has the ability to save to web, it will probobly have the png ability, and will undoubtably have a transparency option.
