WB7 Issues

Friday, August 26, 2011 by LightStar | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Having some issues with WB7 that I hope someone can help me with.  This is on Windows XP SP3 with all updates.

First of all, I have some skins that use only UIS2 frames.  When I maximize a window on one of the skins the frames remain, but on the others they go away like they should.  Any ideas why only one skin would have this behavior? (Edit:  Just found out this occurs in Windows Vista and Windows 7 also).

Second, suddenly now all skins, mine or those of anybody else, will only show non-per-pixel shutdown and logoff dialog backgrounds. Nothing I have done will fix this issue.  I have uninstalled, registry cleaned several times, run ODNT-Zapper.exe, everything I can think of.  Nothing works!

Third issue added:  Whenever I create a .wba file in SkinStudio 7 (it was also uninstalled, reinstalled, etc.), it creates the file name in CAPITAL letters and the extension of .wba in lower case, it did not used to do this before.

My WB7 information is:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 7.2 (build 95 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

(Dell 2408WFP(Digital)) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250

Wblind.dll         2010/11/23 11:23:20
Wbsrv.dll         2010/02/03 16:33:56
SevenConfig.exe         2011/06/14 14:47:27
Wbload.exe         2010/10/20 16:08:35
Wbhelp.dll         2010/10/20 16:08:34
Wbui.dll         2009/06/04 16:14:05
Tray.dll              2009/10/23 20:12:19
Screen.exe         2010/06/07 15:59:43

I even installed the new WB7 beta that just came out to see if that helped with issue 1 yesterday, same issue (I then went back to the non-beta), and today issue 2 and 3 start up.

Please don't make comments about why I am still using Windows XP, I design for all three current OS's and have them all installed, just Windows XP is having the issues.

Did you do a recent update, Tom?

Update of what Doc?

Actually, I upgraded to the latest version of WB7 beta yesterday Doc, but issue 1 was occurring even before the upgrade.  But having wiped out and reinstalled WB7 and SKS7, issues 2 and 3 should not be occurring at all.  The only conclusion I can come to is that the WB7 beta install screwed up my system.  I will never install a "beta" anything again for sure!  Maybe this is a call for me to stop skinning Windows XP entirely.

Windowblinds.

Edit:

The update might not have helped the original problem. Are your drivers (graphic) up to date?

Yep, graphic drivers are up-to-date Doc.  August 2011.  All I can ascertain is that the beta release of Windowblinds yesterday totally screwed my Windows XP.  Hope someone from support reads this thread ( Ticket# QJM-459120 ).

OK, I did a system restore to 5 days ago and the second and third issues fixed themselves.  Probably need to still figure out what caused the problem in the first place though, and the first issued with the frames still remains.  Hope someone can figure that one out.

I was going to suggest the restore, maybe go to even an earlier one depending on what you've updated.

good luck Tom.

A UIS2 skin can control if the borders show when maximized and it sounds like some skins have that set and others do not.  This would be controlled via the maxbordercut values in the personality section of the UIS file.

Thanks Neil.  So do I have to manually edit the .uis file, or is it a setting in SKS7 somewhere?

Never mind Neil, I went in to the .UIS and changed the MaxBorderCut values on left, right and bottom to 10 and all is well!  Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the help!

Well, I thought is was fixed, but I guess not.  The issue persists in explorer windows still, but in apps if I launch one maximized, the problem is there, but if I minimize the app and then maximize it again, all is well.  Weird.

Well, went ahead and put per pixel frames in the skin and it resolved the first issue.

I missed the part about UIS2 frames only...
