skinstudio tga images

I doing my first skin I would want to know how to import my tga pictures because when I import my tga pictures skinstudio copy them in bmp. please help me!

I save my files as png(save as), and skin studio will automatically create the tga file from them. You definitely don't want a background on such images. And, not all sections of skin studio will actually allow the use of tga files. So, its important to know what section are you trying to use a tga file as Koasati asked.

my graphics program is photoshop cs, the section of my problems is XP taskbar, i saving my tga in a folder in my documents, i clic on the start button or task button and i clic on import browse for file button and i choose the tga image, the image is copied in skin folder but she is not anymore in tga but in bmp.I save my tga in 24 bits not compressed and I saw that a lot of skins uses tga for this kind of buttons.

The XP taskbar does not use tga images, only bmp. You don't really need a tga file there. This is because the taskbar is basically just a background. Now, a lot of the buttons and things that go over it can be tga's. I have not seen any skin that uses a tga for that part myself. The buttons over it, yes.

Another thing to consider is that tga images have to saved as 32 bit with alpha. It much easier to do as Chas suggested and save as png, and let SkinStudio convert the image to tga. That's the method I always use too.

For the record, Photoshop CS cannot save TGA format with the alpha channel. That means no transparency, which makes the format seemingly useless with CS. That's why I've stuck with PS7.

It could be the fault of your graphics program, or the way you are saving the tga. Also certain sections can't be tga images. What graphics program are you using? What section(s) are you having trouble with in SkinStudio?
