Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

Powerquest Drive Image 7.0. Does it while you work I'd recommend a second hard drive - large enough to store a number of back-ups so you are never caught out. Drive Image 7.0 will also create partitions for storing back-ups if you haven't got a second hard drive...but that doesn't protect from hard drive failure. You can choose to split the back-up into convenient sizes for copying onto cd or dvd though.

I mean the whole stardock setup I read somewhere (an ad perhaps) that Object Desktop makes it easy to do that (now)?

The backup is called "archive" in SDC.  You also want to make sure you archive all files not just the software so you don't lose skins.
