Criteria

Saturday, May 8, 2004 by UpsideDownGC | Discussion: Stardock Software

How often are people promoted to apprentice and what criteria are used to do that. Also why does it take so long for the objectdock category to be moderated. Is the moderator moderating it everyday or just once every few days?

I would say the mederating is extra slow right now due to the GUIOlympics being judged. As for the promotions, I dunno. I'm just here

Yeah, it really sucks becuase I dont know if I sohuld maek more work if people dont like it so I have to wait to make sutff until I see what they want. It is really bad. They should have volunteer moderators. I would be willing to moderate at the risk of getting banned if I let someone bad through. I just wish moderation was faster, it would really help the site.

likeing it or not I don't think is part of the criteria, it just has to be fairly good work (sometimes not from what I see once in a while) WinCustomize has pretty high standards. I would say don't give up, keep doing what you're doing, you can only get better right.
Before you know it you'll be on that top authors list. I don't feel I have the skills or quality of work for this site YET!! so I'm practicing, until I feel worthy.

Do you think my newer ones are of the quality? In your personal opinion? My earlier ones sucked but I think my newer ones are nicer and some of my current like MY Computer V1 (V2 is being uploaded but that isnt up yet cuz of moderation) are slightly cartoony but for example my ie pack I think is very good.

to be honest with you, I wouldn't use anything you have uploaded. I think you're doing ok though. Try to think about the quality of your work as opposed to the quantity. It doesn't matter how many uploads you have if nobody wants to use them. Take your time get it RIGHT the graphics are everything. Make them crisp clean and visually appealing.

Well, I dont have very much time. I mainly just try to do my best. I know my work is not the best out there but I am getting better I think. I have one that I have spent aobut 10 hours on that looks really plain but in actuality I have to set it up so that the mask i just right. I have tried over 100 different placements and transparencies and still haent gotten a good one. THe one that took me the longest was the Fireworks Colorpack though that took me over 4 hours

Just my personal opinion, but you could make things that you like and are pleased with and, well, because you like to do it, instead of being so concerned with how fast it gets moderated or how well people like it.

I make them because I like them at that moment and becuase I want to. Usually I will upload a set of htings after I learn to do a new thing. Today I learned how to use the punch tool and am making some icons that incorporate that. BTW I only use D8abyte and Jairo's icons usually because they are amazing. I am obsessed with Jairo and D8abytes work. I only link to a few programs, I dont even own many of the programs I do icons for so that is the reason I upload. Also pictoratus. I did upload someting I liked and that was my Fireworks MX colorpack.

That's good to hear.
I'm just of the opinion that if the focus becomes something other than the fun and enjoyment of skinning, then it's hardly worthwhile ... unless you get paid to skin, of course.
