my 2 cents
Tuesday, July 19, 2011 by gmc2 | Discussion: Wallpapers
So, I'm going through the wallpapers to find one to highlight with my next blind (settled on Skyzyk's chopper) and found a picture of a dead leaf with 8 stars. A dead leaf, 8 stars, wtf.
I'm thinking to myself that I have better pictures than that where my finger got in the way and decided to upload a set of 5 pretty damn nice wallpapers. Much better, to me at least, than a dead leaf.
1 approved and the other 4 regulated to my personal page, very disappointed.
I've always stayed out of the wallpaper rants and bitching as I had not uploaded wallpapers and had no experience to comment on. Now I guess I do and can empathize with those that have had their work regulated to personal pages (or rejected outright) when work that appears to be of lesser quality is allowed to become part of the public galleries.

Jellyfish
Dandelion
Yellow flower
Rose-2
I'll be deleting these over the weekend, if anyone is interested grab them while they're here.

You 'could' see an optometrist....find out why your photographs aren't in any semblance of focus....
I had a camera once that did that. It was an Olympus Pen ....had a hard life....had been dropped once too many times.
Viewfinder simply didn't....![]()

over a dead leaf, not much of a challange.
I guess you 'could' take an art appreciation 101 course to better understand the various techniques that photographers apply to make their shots unique...
I didn't ask why they weren't posted in the public forum however having a wallpaper experience I added my two cents to those that don't understand. I also wanted to give people who might be interested an opportunity to download them before they are deleted.
with the exception of Snowman's post, see how quickly these posts boil down to moderators getting snarky with those that post against the grain.

gmc2 ...not 'snarky' at all. If you choose to "publish" these images on the public forums you will need to expect so doing to attract criticism, both for the public exposure and for the method of its doing.
Public posting in this manner subverts their non-placement in the Public Gallery.
Re 'art appreciation 101'...I don't need to. I have the professional miles already. Fine Art is part of Architecture.....and that was 1972. We had cameras back then, too, you know...![]()

best advice is don't take any notice of stars... or you'll go nuts...
I have two logons in the gallery at the moment voted down to 2 1/2 stars... the wallpapers they are made from are in the wallpaper gallery at 5 stars...
it's not a reliable science... just ignore it...
besides.... dead leaves look cool...

Ratings...personal pages....etc. It's all a dead horse that has been beaten hundreds of times.

Jafo, I took your comments as the reason for rejection. I can't tell when you comment officially or unofficially.
Sydney, always the voice of reason. I don't worry about star ratings and if I went into more of an explanation I'd just be digging the hole deeper.

Syney, is that the Zubaz Xion player? I'm super flattered (and more than a bit surprised).
(I wonder what rating *that* has.

the disappointment and frustration of rejection is felt by all of us at some stage... I do think they are a little too fuzzy... but I think the Jellyfish pic could look really cool if put into photoshop and worked on with some colours and effects... sometimes if a pic doesn't quite cut it as is... use it for an interesting basis...

You wouldn't say that around Col. Sherman T. Potter.
