Mess after change

Icon Packager clearly has a problem when updating Icon packs. Sometimes everything is completely messed up and no icon is where it belongs. Which I canÄ't understand as every icon 'only' has a fixed number. Should be no problem to keep these in order.

You should avail yourself of Support's help, Carl. Maybe also note what other software is open at the time...?

IconPackager doesn't seem to work right with Windows 7.

Is that a common known problem ? I mean if such an essential function like updating and saving a package is broken, a fix would be in order.

Carl... If it's a matter of "blank icons" I did see a fix by JcRabbit on page 4 of the June 2011 desktop screenshot thread:
"Open the Windows Registry Editor, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shellex and delete the subkey/folder IconHandler"
This did work for WebGizmos' blank icons.
If it's a wonky IP5 I'd also "Verify Installation" through Impulse. [select IP and then shift+right click].

No, it is not the blank icons. It is when I change icons in a pack and save the package it can happen that for example .jpg extension files have the security shield applied as an icon or that .xlsx files have the .txt icon applied. All sorts of strange things also happen to other Icons also.
Another problem is that often the original app-icons get applied back when starting the application for that filetype. But that is not IPs fault. Adobe and Corel filetypes are good at that.
Other than that : 'Iconpackager is installed correctly.'

Then it sounds like Support and the devs need to solve that problem, mate. Sorry I couldn't help.

I've since been told that it's best to just put all the icons in all at once, not to close and reopen the builder while putting them in. That works for the most part, but even then, not all of the icons will apply ...or even show up in the preview window. And this 'solution' will not work if you only want to change a few in a pack once you've downloaded it.
Iconpackager is definitely in need of some TLC.

Carl. Come on... x number of people tasked to y projects. It's just a matter of time until it gets done.
The complaining doesn't help hasten to issue's resolution. Sometimes a pm to management (*use care here) helps remind... tactfully.

Okay, patience. But this was not as bad meant as it may sound. Others do a 'Bump'.
Nevertheless I will wait and see if I can work arround the issue.

Copy of report made to support [#SXH-324381]:
This is what I did :
- Copy IconPackage
- Loaded and applied the copy
- Changed some icons, especially file icons
- Saved Package
- Applied package
Result : Pic 2 + 3. A lot of the icons are messed up and are not assigned to the subject they should / they where on saving though).
Note even the Shortcut Icon is messed up.
Pic 1 shows a slight error where IP-undefined file types juat grab the shield icon.
My suspect is that icon packager messes up the ordering while saving.

All I can say Carl is that IconPackager worked ok on my XP rig...but ever since I've been using Windows 7 it never works right...I can't change icons and even when I don't and use a regular icon package it never "sticks" and my icons revert back to default icons...very annoying.

What I wonder about is that support never seemed to have heard of this issue (?).
