sub-style question

I am updating my last blind to include an XP substyle.
do the control panel or log off images need to be a part of the substyle or are they the default regardless. I finished the control panel but didn't start the substyle. Almost seems that only difference, besides icons, is the startmenu and components???

The log off images will default to ugly normal XP style if you don't skin them. If you don't have a system with XP on it, it's going to be really hard to make a substyle for it, which is why I don't skin for any other operating systems than 7. You'll still have a substyle, but there will be a lack of skin cohesion where the XP parts are.

missed this one.
your also gonna need a pair of eyes too, cause those xp buttons have to be sitting in the right position too. and dont forget xp colours, ect the list never ends with xp, your just gonna need a pair of eyes you trust to test the skin on xp ect to get the result you want.
otherrwise your skinning blind. i cannot express how fustrating that is.........i been there done that.

If you can find a copy of SKS5, that's a good place to start making XP versions that are complete and work right. I always start my blinds (XP version first) in old SKS5 before I port 'em over to SKS7. If you've never used it 'tho, there's a learning curve from "new" SKS but there's more options and access to more coding too. (XP)...

I always use SKS 7, start by creating the XP style and then go on to creating the Windows Vista sub-style, and then Windows 7. Seems to work out fine that way.

I'm still debating. I have templates and some xp only skins to draw settings from. thanks for responding guys.
but, the original question was; if I accidently skinned the control panel for win7 will it make a difference.

The control panel for Windows 7 and XP are different. If you do not skin the XP parts (bars, arrows, icons, etc.), they will remain the default images for XP users.

They are two completely different areas, skinning one or the other will make no difference except to the OS you are skinning for. If you are skinning the control panel items for XP, then only XP will be affected and the same for Windows 7.

well the problem is solved now the question is if I want to do it. We found that my old laptop has xp on it. need to do some serious cleaning on it but...

There's a lot more work to it but as far as I'm concerned blinds should be built for ALL users regardless of which OS (XP, Vista, 7) they choose to use. If they're only built for one OS (and I wholeheartedly believe there are STILL more XP users out there than 7), think of all the users who are missing out on your work since it's not fully usable for them...
