Fences is crashing windows 7 x64 - explorer.exe on bootup

Friday, May 6, 2011 by TLamming | Discussion: Fences

Hi Guys,

I've added a second monitor to my system and ever since, fences crashes on bootup. I've tried removing fences plus all settings with no results. Same issue. Is this a bug with such a big change to the system? I've played with the permissions with no luck as well, but I assume the graphics subsystem is giving fences a new situation it isnt used to, hence the crash.

I've linked the log file off dropbox. Check it out. Thanks guys (finally a nice day in Michigan )

Hello, Stardock?

My Desktop (with Fences) doesn't work on startup (I have Vista x64).  But a simple kill "explorer.exe" in Task Manager and reloading explorer does the trick on my machine.

So is it just Fences that crashes, or the whole desktop?

I think it's explorer that is crashing, right?

Yeah explorer crashes over and over trying to load fences. Then fences disables itself as a safety measure.

Okay so Fences wasn't crashing Explorer when you had one monitor correct?

That would mean if it started when you went to a dual monitor setup that there is some sort of conflict with your video card driver, most likely.

If you have an AMD/ATI card try stopping the Catalyst Control Center from loading.

Also update your video card drivers to current version if you haven't done so in awhile.

I had the same feeling about the driver doing something. Ill give it a shot! Thanks

You are the man! Well I had to add some flavor. Reintalling updated drivers did not work, so what I did (I have an nvidia card) is reinstall the driver and checked "clean install" this worked! Well done!

Fences does not work - rather uninstall it. Some sycophants may respond that I should get a grip .. but this has been an enormous waste of time for something I have paid for. Pity - it seemed a good product at the start.

Did you write about the problem and things you've tried to [email protected] ?

If not, I'd suggest you do so. Next time you have a problem with the software put it in a support forum, and write to support.

I found the solution finally

The solution is to determine what specific issue YOUR machine setup has with Fences.

Fences is installed on millions of systems world wide - without issue.

You need to do as DrJBHL suggests as there's little to no point in resurrecting a 6 month old post relating to someone else's RESOLVED issue.

Obviouly the wong forum to post my specific complaints. Still have a problem with Fences though -which have never been resolved despite numerous requests to Stardock.

Maybe YOU think it's resolved because most have given up on this.

No....actually because of post #9.

The OP's issue was resolved 8 months ago.

You specifically still need to follow the advice given in #13 ....

Trolls dislike fences.

Actually, it's not a pissing contest...it's the debunking of trollish behaviour.

[Edit] ...and editing comments did not help you...

rmorum:

No one's in a contest... especially of that sort.

You're the one with the problem. A solution for getting help was offered.

It's up to you: Write to support or not.

Thank you kindly sir. No joy in any solution so far to my Fences problems. That certainly seems to have BECOME  my problem.
