We weren't effected in my neck of the woods but I know A LOT of folks in northwest Georgia who were. Yes, pray for all those effected and lend a helping hand (donations, volunteer, etc.) where you can...

I got hold of Harley on the phone today, he and his are all ok. Good news that!

The wife and I took some paper towels and bottled water out to the place they are calling "Command Central" today. It is at the crossroads close to Camp Creek, which was the hardest hit in our area with 10 deaths confirmed. The Red Cross was there, as was FEMA, and Homeland Security.

We were told to tell people that they needed paper products, so we went back out later with toilet paper and more paper towels. And some soap.

They were set up to feed people and everything. Had people cooking on grills, food coming in from local restaurants, etc. It was good to see everyone coming together to aid the victims.

There were also crews coming in to clean up and rescue.

And as human nature would seem to have it, there were people trying to steal from those who had lost all, so the authorities had to block all access to the area except for those living there. ID was necessary to get through.

I can't believe that people would stoop so low as to steal from those who had lost about everything. To exploit that opportunity is heinous.

Funny, your post wasn't there when I posted...lol. That's all I got at my house, yet across town 10 dead. I feel blessed.

Worst since the Great Depression I read in the news and May starts tomorrow. Worst month for storms.

Ya know Jim, you are one of the most kind and helpful people I know. There are not enough people in this world like you. You are always going out of your way to help others. Most people are more concerned about themselves in that type of situation, but not you.  I am very proud to have you as my friend.

What I did was very little. I just wish I could have done more. I should have been one of the guys cleaning up the debris, or at least serving food to the victims, or something. 30 or 40 dollars worth of paper goods is a very small thing. It made me feel good to do it. I cry for those who now have nothing, and even more for those who lost loved ones.

It is amazing how quickly a nice peaceful life can be turned upside down and light go to dark.

I love that part of Georgia! Lived in Toccoa awhile right out of Forsyth and after about a dozen moves pretty much all over the state, I ended up in NE Georgia (Rome, Cedartown, LaFayette). If I hadn't been chasing rank, I'd have probably stuck in NE Georgia...

Well, that's just "peachy"!    

There were more than 750 tornadoes repoted in April. The number of tornadoes (on average) almost doubles from April to May (May is the middle of tornado season). So, how much do we really need to worry?

Are we going to see more of the same this month?

I live in Dixie Alley, where killer tornadoes are actually more common than the infamous "tornado alley".

It's funny.... after the storms this past Wednesday, I'm a little skittish. My friend and I were sitting in his van getting ready to leave work when a little crotch-rocket motorcycle wound out it's engine at a red light. The first 5 seconds of it sounded like the tornado siren here in Booneville. I actually jumped.

I love big storms.... but I am honestly nervous when I see them on the weather now. I blame moving to Mississippi......
