My SD Central program corrupted?

Wednesday, February 25, 2004 by dabe | Discussion: Stardock Software

I'm having a bit of a problem here. When I'm using Stardock Central, like right now, I can jump back and forth between the WC-Help forum and the WC-Skinning forum. Fine. But, if I try to go to WC-General, I "encounter a problem" and have to shut down. Then, of course, I get the option of sending a report. Every time. I can only read the general forum from Wincustomize. I'm thinking that something became corrupted and I'm going to have to uninstall and reinstall SD Central. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I'm guessing that's an MS error message you're getting, so I'm not to sure it's SDC. Having said that..just download a new copy of SDC and install right over the one you have and see if that does it....if not then we'll try something else...(could be the IE engine acting up)

It's definitely an MS error message. But it shuts down regardless. I don't really have a choice. I'll try downloading a new one, and see what happens. Thanks.

Yup, Gary, it worked. Such a simple solution. And, I never even thought of it. Thank you!!

Never mind. It didn't work.
It did once, then when I tried it again, I got a SD message that said my account was not validated, and it shut down. Then when I reopened it, it started at the help forum I switched to the general forum, and bammmmm I "encountered a message" and have to shut down. It's not working. I suppose if I uninstall SD first, I'll lose all my downloads list. Worse things can happen. What do you think?

hummm..I'm not sure why you got 'not validated'....but...you won't lose anything by un-installing. Save the Backup folder in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral folder and after you un-install, the entire folder: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral. Re-boot and re-install SDC.

Wow...it won't let me edit in SDC...

that should say: "after you un-install, erase the entire folder"

...oh man...it won't let me say that word... erase/ get rid of...you get the idea

OK Everything is working just dandy right now. I saved the BACKUP folder in a separate drive, but I'm afraid to bring it into my new SD downloaded, working great program for fear of recorrupting it. I don't think I'm going to bother right now. I'm too tired, anyway. Thanks, yet again, Gary. It's nice to be back.

The backup folder is only the archive files when you update your apps and they've been wacked for the last 2 weeks or so...

...so if you want, just get rid of it...glad it's working
