I'd like to try my hand at some wallpapers. I know nothing about 3D modeling and was wondering what programs you all are using.
my paint program is paintshoppro7. (also have X)

If you go the Blender route, I highly suggest http://www.blenderguru.com/
Also, make sure you grab Blender 2.5, as it is a HUGE improvement to Blender 2.4x. If you're going for photorealism, you might want to check out LuxRender/LuxBlend

You won't be sorry dude. Blender may be a freebie but its awful powerful. You'll be amazed at what it can do. BTW ... steep learning curve but well worth it. IMO

you can try Adobe Photoshop CS5 $699.00
or Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended $999.00

or Gimp it's Free and can do a lot of what Photoshop can do
oh and
Corel $399 to $699.00
