Which virtual desktop to use?

Monday, February 16, 2004 by alpha-prime | Discussion: Stardock Software

I have an Nvidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 graphics card and I am using Driver version 53.03 (the latest general release). A long time ago I used to Nvidia's Nview for managing virtual desktops. I have just tried it again and Nview no longer works on my PC. Does anybody know if Nvidia's Nview works with Window Blinds 4? It is a long time since I used Nview so it could have stopped working ages ago. I only recently installed WindowBlinds so my first thoughts were that they are not compatible.

I tried the virtual desktops in SDC:

Control Centre was too much for what I needed, I just need to switch between 2 or 3 desktops.

BandVWM seemed a better bet. But I have a couple of problems with it. It loses the configuration when I logoff, e.g. I set it to two virtual desktops, but when I log back on its back to the default settings of four. The follow attribute doesn't appear to work, e.g. all the windows icons appear in the task bar, but if I click on one thats not in the current virtual desktop nothing happens. Maybe I haven't understood the documentation, but I had assumed that setting the follow attribute should have caused it to jump to that virtual desktop.

Appreciate anybody's views on the best way to implement virtual desktops with WindowBlinds and if they have Nvidia's nview working with WindowBlinds.

Many thanks

If your a DesktopX user, you can easily configure and use this VWM. https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=3&SkinID=2760

I have nVidia nView but I never use it, but for the record, it doesn't work on my system either. But my system is not one to judge by...a lot of things don't work on here. hehe...

Thanks Hus,

Just downgraded my Nvidia driver to 52.16 and Nview works fine alongside WindowBlinds. No idea what the issue is with 53.03 is, but at least I have got my virtual desktops back.

I have DesktopX, but so far I have only used WindowsBlinds. I'll try out DesktopX when I've had time to readup on what it can do.
