An option for feedback on low ratings

Automated emails

Wednesday, March 2, 2011 by C_K | Discussion: Wallpapers

I wonder if it might be possible for the accepted or rejected automated email from the wallpaper moderator to have a link at the bottom of the message so that some feedback or guidance can be obtained if required by the person submitting the work? Like most people, I have read all the guidelines, which give a lot of leeway to Stardock and the moderator. Apart from the main general rules and guidelines, there is always the open question of taste and preference, which must also affect decisions. I am sure that I am not alone in finding the ratings given at times quite mystifying.

I understand that the moderator(s) have a lot of ground to cover, but surely some understanding should be given to subscribers and customers who spend a lot of time in producing their work for free and then making various sizes, preparing additional comments and a preview, and uploading all the work in an acceptable form. A quick means of querying a rating given, and getting some specific guidance would be helpful and a nice courtesy to the customer, who is after all, paying for the privilege.

It can be very demoralising to have work given a low rating and confined to your personal site where very few people will see it, or have the opportunity to download it.  This is particularly annoying when you don't understand why.

But whatever. I am just a dumb sucker that gave these guys my money and probably about to be banned for voicing my aggravation.

Wait....I could have been 'bribing' the mods all these years?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

son of a.......

Seriously, though...your 'money' (subscription, whatever) is not a factor in whether your art makes the gallery.

You need to check out the thread everyone keeps pointing you to and actually take some of your energy and use it reading it through. Besides a lot of funny stuff, there are a lot of good tips and a lot of folks relating the same frustration you are expressing. I think I can speak for the majority who have had things sent to their personal gallery when I say it only helped make them better.

As someone who submitted four different versions of the same wallpaper before it made the gallery I can personally say it helped me look at what I was attempting to do a lot harder and and with new eyes.

First, I want to apologize to the Mods for my behavior the other night. I had a bit too much to drink and made an axx of myself. I have gone back and cleaned my mess.

As to this quoted post and many directed at me like this, I think you are TOTALY missing the point. As what the Original Post is all about and what I have been asking is simply for the mod that rejects/reviews submissions, to simply leave a remark in the reply that our work was "excepted" (Yet when we check the site it only made it to our Personal page. That remark would tell the submitter why the mods have decided that the package was not good enough for everyone to see it. It could be a simple -

"Congratulations, Your package was excepted to upload. Unfortunately we feel your package is:

Low quality, or Far too similar to the hundreds of other packages already on the wall, or We feel this doesnt represent Wincustomize well, or even, We just dont like you.

What ever the reason, at least you could tell us so that submitters would have an idea what to improve on to make it acceptable, or maybe even dump that particular project and begin a new one. I can take my pix to the threads you are referring to but its no help because the members arent the ones rejecting the packages its the mods. If the reviewer is not telling me whats wrong, how can I possible improve what he is not liking.

That is my Gripe. Being put on the PP is not the problem, Its the lack of being given a reason.

I do not think that being a customer means I have to have any of my work uploaded to the wall. Having respect as a member/customer in telling me why its bad so I can improve, start over, or find a new hobby is ALL I am asking.

Perhaps its my bad education and I am not stating my case clearly. Incase I still come of as a jilted member, just ignore the post and keep from bashing me more.

Essentially...if an upload goes to your Personal Page [and you had NOT intended it to - you hadn't clicked that option] then that is the case/reason...

OTHER THAN THE LAST "we just don't like you".

The Moderators do not care who is submitting an upload...unless there's a flood of submissions and they are all from the one person...then 'who' becomes relevant.  Otherwise the 'what' is important, not the 'who'.

If you seek to improve your chances/success/approval of submissions [particularly to the wallpaper gallery] you can seek public opinion in the Forums.  Both Mods AND general members alike have extensive schooling/experience in graphics, graphic art, skinning, et al.

The most common reason for rejection [or diverting to PP] is "same old same old", in other words it's all been done before [and better] so yet another Bryce/Torus/Poser/Fractal/Apophysis/Blue Swirlie/floating spere/etc is likely to end up on "the cutting room floor" somewhere....
