wb & msstyle conflict

Wednesday, January 28, 2004 by shajib2kbd | Discussion: Stardock Software

i use patched msstyles most of the time. i installed wb 4.2 just yesterday. now my prob is when i unload wb, it gets unloaded nicely, & i can use msstyles. but when i restart my pc, wbload.exe doesnt start but wb loads itself partially(the taskbar looks almost double in size, the taskbar icons get bigger). i didnt find any startup entry for wb, so cant try to stop wb to load at startup. to solve it, i have to start wbload.exe, then unload it & then i get my normal desktop. but when i used wb 4.1 with msstyles, that didnt give me this sort of trouble. now i uninstalled wb 4.2 & installed 4.1 again, & now even 4.1 is giving the same trouble. i really like some of the wb skins & thats why i use wb occationally. so i'd really appreciate if anyone can help me out. thanx in advance.

Get rid of the patched uxtheme file and convert the msstyles to windowblinds. that simple.

I had problems with the uxtheme patch and windowblinds, and finally it got so bad that I had to reformat and reinstall windows....all right that wasn't my only problem, but it was really bugging me because I couldn't load either windowblinds or msstyles because either one would only last for about a minute then revert back to classic.

well, i used them both simultaneously for pretty long time. i didnt have any prob b4, except for the display properties taking long to show up. donno whats wrong with this 4.2 version. anyways, can anyone tell me how to stop wb from running at startup? even if there is no startup entry? does it make itself system service or sthing like that?

No system service for windowblinds. You can try unloading windowblinds from the windowblinds advanced configuration. I don't think it will reload apon startup. You can also change your display properties theme tab setting to classic or XP. That will also unload windowblinds and it won't restart upon reboot.

thanx chas for ur effort. i found the culprit & solved the problem. it was stylexp. to travis, using the patched uxtheme is no prob. what makes all trouble is the stylexpservice. i uninstalled stylexp & now i use both patched uxtheme & wb 4.1 simultaneously & believe me or not, my pc was never faster
