Sent PM's through the forums are disappearing without me deleting them
Tuesday, February 1, 2011 by Philly0381 | Discussion: Forum Issues
I've seen this in the last week or so where PM's I've sent in response to ones I have received just disappear without me deleting them. Is this a known issue/problem with the PM system or do I have a problem on my side? ![]()
I am using IE 8 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

If an unread PM is deleted by the sender does the recipient still get it or not?"
On one particular occasion the recipient deleted the UNREAD PM and my copy also disappeared.
It was the recipient who did the deleting, not me - the sender.

Only one copy of the PM is kept in the database. If it is deleted, it is also deleted from the sent folder of the person who sent it (since it is technically the same row in the database).

Lambs-to-the-slaughter....
Yes, for me not only slaughtered, but shorn and roasted with mint sauce on top.

However if there's only one copy of the PM in the database then it must also work the other way where if the sender deletes his "copy" then it's also deleted from the Inbox of the recipient.
I guess if you want to save something from a PM then you need to make sure you archive it elsewhere.

I've long wanted to be able to export my PMs to a local text file. 50 is such a tiny limit, at least for those of us who've been around for several years.
Re deleting the One Copy, wouldn't it make more sense to leave the message in the database until both parties have deleted it? Just hide it from whoever deletes it first and take it off their storage quota.

I guess in my case the question is, is there any linkage between PM's sent by one person and received by another?
Could intentional deletion by one cause the undesired deletion for the other?
If so is this desirable PM functionality?
