The "hover for comment options" thing....meh

Monday, January 31, 2011 by Bebi Bulma | Discussion: Forum Issues

I thought the thing with the hovering to the comment options (reply, give karma, etc) was gonna be switched back to being always on....anyway, it's impossible to give karma for a post in a closed thread because those things don't show up.

Never noticed...but it would make good sense that they didn't...considering the thread IS closed....

"reply, give karma, etc" in a dead thread....

Personally, when I run into that, I just blow them a kiss in a PM (just ask Jaf). I'm confident they would prefer one from you....

P.S. Paul, you have a PM

Perhaps, but there's still no reason why we shouldn't be able to give karma even though the thread is closed.

There is a reason.  Since the thread is deemed 'closed' subsequent 'comment' via such avenues as karma 'reasons' circumvents that closure and could propagate the issue that prompted the closure.....

Yes, Gary....you're still a putz but we love you.....

I'll see about enabling the karma button for closed threads, but no promises!

That doesn't help if you want to give them karma for a specific reply in a closed thread.

I really don't agree with the idea of allowing someone to 'appreciate' a thread respondent AFTER it has required closure.

The fact it needed closing indicates the people 'lost the plot' and thus do not deserve a pat on the back.....however 'nominal' it may be.

What if someone said something earlier in the thread (before it "lost the plot") that is extremely helpful?  Should that person not get recognition because others spammed the remainder of the thread with off topic rambling?
