Systray weather icons for Windows

Wednesday, December 15, 2010 by thomassen | Discussion: OS Customization

I'd like to find a small free and simple utility that adds a little weather icon in the system tray. (Preferable with customizable icons as I'd like to match the icons up with the simple plain white icons of Win7.)

Anyone knows of such an utility? I search around and only stumble upon desktop gadgets - or all too complex, bloated non-free utilities.

WeatherBug has a bad reputation, including spyware and adware.

You could try the free version of the Winstep Nexus dock - it allows you to show the weather icon on the system tray, you can customize the weather icons by replacing the images that ship with it (you even have two pre-defined styles), and you get a nice dock in the bargain with features no other Windows dock has.

This is a very nice program and it is spyware and adware free. It puts a widget on the desktop that shows the current conditions, which can be turned on or off and also adds an icon in the system tray. It is free and can be configured to have as many cities as you like with weather maps three day 10day forecasts and much more. I have been using it for a few years and it is the best I have found.

Uvah, I hope you find it as useful as I have. If you need help configuring the maps and such, let me know. There are many views for the satellite and I love the web cams and alerts when the weather turns to crap!

The first thing it did was pop up with a dialogue asking for my zip code. Less than thirty seconds later I got this little window on my screen and it updates the weather every time you power up, in real time. I haven't even started on the other stuff yet. And accurate ... yeah. Wind chill, barometric pressure, dew point, visibility, the whole nine. makes Acu-Weather look like a wannabe and its unobtrusive which I like very much!
