Icon Developer Problem

Wednesday, December 10, 2003 by PMC32885 | Discussion: Stardock Software

Whenever I import a png to create an icon, the saved file shows up as a blank document with the .ico extension, but there are no icons in the file. Does anyone know what's going wrong?

Make sure in 'Icon Delveloper' settings that .ico files are associated with it.

Go into your Folder options/File Types and scroll down to this proggie and see which 'Icon' is assigned to it... my guess is you have Icon Packager installed.

"Icon" is currently assigned to IconDelveloper. I do have IconPackager installed.

Open up Icon Packager (IP) and look under 'Icons an Cursors'

I hope we're talking about the same thing. When you save an icon you want it to show as an 'ID' icon and not a blank icon (looks like a blank sheet of paper). If that's the case then open 'IP' and you can change any or all of your icons to whatever you want. Apply and save after you change the 'ID' icon. Do I have this right as to what you want?

No, my problem's a little bigger than that. ID is not saving my icons correctly. When i go to save them, any icon i now create is blank (while all icons created bfore this incident remain normal). The defective icons are also much larger than they should be (4mb insted of 80kb). I've already tried reinstalling ID, but that did not work.

I ran into the same thing on the 'save'. The main save button doesn't appear to do anything, there are several ways to save your icon. After you make or change your icon save it in the window titlebar under file 'save as' and see if that works for you. I'll get over to the newsgroups and see if something is going on I don't know about. Let me know if this work around works for the short term for you.

"save as" dosn't work either. I just downloaded ID on to my laptop (the ID on my desktop PC the one not working) and it works fine. if we can't fine a solution i'll just use my laptop instead.

OK...let me do a little research and see if I can come up with an answer with the 'PC' problem. For whatever reason, it's not working correctly on my 'PC' either (although, not to the extent of yours). I'll post as soon as I find something.
