Windowsblinds Bug - Microsoft Security Essentials

Sunday, December 12, 2010 by LightStar | Discussion: WindowBlinds

Trying to figure out what would cause this issue and how to fix it in SkinStudio  I am using the latest software, but this issue occurs with prior version of Windowblinds also, and does it on XP and Vista.  Have not had a chance to check Windows 7 yet.

This is how Microsoft Security Essentials normally looks:

This is what happens with certain Windowblinds skins, like the Helios by Stardock Design.  It also occurs with my Visage and Halo3 skins, but they are not finished yet.  The text in the green area disappears, as well as the text in the tabs, and the tabs get smaller width wise.

Can anyone at Stardock tell me what area in Windowblinds/SKS would control this area?  I am thinking it might be a font issue, but I cannot seem to find the problem.

Thanks!

Ok, I figured this one out on my own.  It was apparently a corrupt font on my system.  Calibri Bold.  Funny thing is, I can find several different releases of this font, all with a different file size and creation date.  Weird!

Interesting.

Did you set your desktop icon font to be that font in the skin?

Thanks for replying Neil, but I am not sure what you mean by that.

In the skins with the issue, was the system font for desktop icon text set to Calibri?

It was set to Calibri Bold, when I changed it to just Calibri and set it to the Bold attrtibute in SKS, all was fine.  Calibri Bold and Calibri are two different fonts.  When I replaced my Calibri Bold system font in C:\Windows\Fonts with a newer version, even the Helios skin, which I had not tried to change, fixed itself.
