WMP uses 100% CPU while playing videos.

I have other media players that dont but I would still like to fix WMP.(9)

If you are playing DVD's while running other programs(expecialy explorer and internet explorer) and have less than a 1GHZ machine and less than 128MB of ram you will definatly have problems. Also make sure the SRS WOW effects are turned off and the color correction is disabled.

no dvd's,I have 1 ghz proc and 392 ram.Winamp will play the same video with less than half the load.Never thought to turn off srs tho.Might help.Color correction along with brightness and contrast are the main reasons I want to use WMP9.I use to have it working right but now its messed up again.Xp had a problem with continually searching for the media info as long as a video file was still selected in explorer but I dont think thats what the problem is now.

Seems to be a conflict with cursor XP and WMP9.Sometimes they dont play well together.Either the cursor gets jumpy or the video pegs at 100%.Its working for now.

No its not,even with cursor XP off it still pegs out at 100%.Any help ?

I have a suggestion. Maybe it is a DirectShow filter you installed. ObjectMedia may use that same filter. If you play your video using ObjectMedia (please download the latest version from SDC) and OM is using 100% CPU time too then chances are that it is caused by that filter. The next step would be to try to find out how to uninstall the filter.

Let me know what happens. I might be able to help you identify that filter.

For the record: The problem is NOT caused by OM. It would behave in the same way if the problem was a DirectShow filter.

Everything seems to be fine (except for WMP9)All codecs installed and functioning,no redundant codecs,Did every test possible with DX diagnostics.All media players work fine Except WMP9.

.Funny thing is,I dl'd a program(g-spot) that lets you test a media file to see what codecs it requires,whether or not you have the codecs installed, and if the file is complete etc...

.If i launch the movie from there,it works perfectly,any other way is a no go.

OK. But remember that G-Spot is not always accurate. It guesses a lot. And it is not always right when doing that.

If you are using DesktopX (not sure if you do) try to enable hardware acceleration or when it is already enabled disable it. Sometimes that helps too. Haven't tried CursorXP in a while. Maybe such an option is there too. WB has a similar option (Basic Settings->Performance). Reverse the HyperPaint setting.

Settings like these can have odd and unexpected results on some graphics cards/drivers. Especially with video files.

The thing is,ALL other media players work fine,just WMP9 that dosnt.It CAN and has worked ,I tried it with Cursor XP and OD off because I thought there was a conflict.But that wasnt it.Havnt tried the hyperpaint setting,will give it a shot.

The only reason I'm hot to fix WMP9 is because I skin it,I want to be able to use my skins and all those other cool ones too.

You can try to play with the WMP9 hardware acceleration setting: Options->Video Acceleration. Try changing it.

Maybe an obvious one: Uninstall WMP9 and reinstall it.

I assume you also tried to run WMP without any ODNT products.

Try closing all applets running in the system tray one at a time.

I am running out of tips at the moment.

WMP is now assigned nothing but mp3s(because I like SRS)Winamp at least gives you a booster for the sound in low level audio in videos.
