Compact start

I have been trying to get the compact start panel to work without any luck so far. I change the settings and apply a compact skin but the text stays and it just looks distorted. Any suggestions?

Then when you select a skin (that offers compact start menu), if there is regular and compact versions within the skin, you'll need to choose the compact version from the sub-designs drop down menu on your properties/appearance window.
