wincustomize.org Needs to Start Moderation

Monday, July 2, 2001 by charmed | Discussion: WinCustomize Talk

wincusto needs to plan ahead of time for filtering out the glut of skins that will come if they're not careful.

I kind of like wincusto's clever scheme of soft-moderation where only certain users cant see a "moderated" wallpaper. And a typical user won't even notice that his WP has been MODDED. It seems to not be happening now though.

What I'd like to experiment with is not moderation really; it's selection: we got a quota: you 2 get to stay for 2 months and prove yourselves, the rest of you got a week! Now git!

Too many skins is bad.
Too many good skins is bad.
A few great skins is excellent.

Selective exposure. Interesting idea.

What we're going to eventually have is in your user profiles you'll be able to see the threshold (rating wise) on a section by section basis.

Ratings are definitely an imperfect tool but they do work reasonably well in some sections, particularly wallpapers (in my view anyway).
