Forum Update - September 24, 2010 - Karma/Ad-related (Updated again September 27, 2010)
Friday, September 24, 2010 by GunslingerBara | Discussion: Forum Issues
I pushed a forum update today that has the following changes:
1. Disabled the ads on the WinCustomize forums to try and prevent the "Malware Detection" problems for Chrome and Firefox.
2. Karma is now universal across all sites. This means that the karma number you now see in each post will be the same across all of the forums, and that giving someone karma means they will get it everywhere. Let me know if you notice any issues with it.
3. Updated some of our back-end moderation tools.
4. Minor bug fixes.

Man, karma is tricky business. I'm just glad I don't have god's job.

I've updated the forums again. The karma page now includes pagination and I have included links to view a user's given karma.

says he with ten pages of karma.
Clicking on View karma (my name) has given doesn't seem to work. It just reloads the page.

Try doing a hard refresh. I am able to click on it just fine.
EDIT: My mistake, it was a bug in my code. Try it now, it should work.
Please see Reply #21 for why this is happening.

Not sure what bug you're referring to. Can you provide more details/screenshots?

I sent it into support already if you want the image, but basically it stops at Microids and goes to Recent Posts (it used to stop at Focus Home, which you can see in the image if its still up)

As long as I'm not logged in it's fine

Also got a 'Sd.Menus.Menu is null or not an object' error that pops up ten times every other time I load a page I've been trying to ignore forever

Not sure what you mean by Microids...
Try doing a hard refresh on that page (Ctrl + F5). If there were script errors I would have seen them. What browser are you using?

It was in IE8, now it's still the same in IE9 beta -> Microids in here. This is me logged off. (and then on to Recent Posts and all that)

As to the script error I assume it's related to Microsoft Security Essentials in some way, as when I upgraded to the 2.0 beta it stopped doing it every time (and usually doesn't do it anymore.)
But that could be bunk since I upgraded to IE9 recently too. I'd have to redo everything to be sure, but it does it on my laptop and did it on a clean install too. So I don't know if its an issue on my side at all.

I've edited the title to fix it, may take a bit of time for the caches to refresh.
Hey Bara...if you're in the fix it mood, how about bringing the "watch a thread" feature back.
I did not simply add the karma from all of the sites, I recalculated it. The way it used to work is that if you received karma in a forum that was shared across multiple sites (such as the Forum Issues forum), you would get karma on each of those sites. If you received karma in a forum that was only on one site, only that sites karma would change for your account. If I simply added your karma for both sites, it would have been inaccurate because I'd be double-counting. Instead, I recalculated it on a per-forum basis, so that's the reason your karma looks like it went down. In reality, it's the same as it was before, just in different way
