2 Things. And error and a question.

Friday, August 8, 2003 by DeathRay2K | Discussion: Stardock Software

1) The ICONX.DLL file is linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:SHGetFolderLocation.
This is the error message I get when I try to run DesktopX... It worked before I formatted my computer, so I know something's missing...

2) Is there a program that takes a bunch of PNG images and attaches them in one PNG image. I want to know because I made a few animations, but they're in MNG format. I can convert each frame to PNG, but I want to attach them in one image.

Don't know the answer to the second question, but I solved the first by uninstalling DX, installing version 1.3 and then updating to the latest version.

I tried to post this a week ago, but I couldn't post or change my profile:

I think you need a new version of Windows. Shell32 problems usually mean your Windows isn't supported or something is installed wrong. You might have just downloaded a bad copy of DesktopX Beta. To disable iconX(which I believe is causing your problem):

*******WARNING*******
If done wrong this could make some or all of your Windows programs or Windows to stop working.
Make sure that you are in the DesktopX folder and that you are changing the correct value.
You may also want to make a backup before you change anything.
Use this at your own risk(If you are have never editied the registry before, it might be better to have someone else do it for you)
*********************

click start->run
type regedit
hit enter
*******to make a backup*******
click file->export registry file
in the export range section click the box for all
save it somewhere safe on your harddrive(or a floppy, but it isn't any better unless you know how to edit the registry from outside of windows)
******************************
in the left panel scroll all the way to the top and close all the branches
open the branch: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
open the branch: Software
then: Stardock
click the icon for DesktopX
now in the right panel there should be a key(value) that says: IconX REG_DWORD 0x00000001
double click on that
change the value data to equal 0
click ok
close regedit

That should disable IconX. I hope this solves your problem. If your computer breaks start in safe mode or last know good configuration by pressing F8 durring booting. Double click on the backup you made to restore it. DO NOT RESTORE IT IF YOU HAVE INSTALLED ANY IMPORTANT PROGRAMS SINCE DOING THIS AS THEY MAY STOP WORKING. To undo this(if you figure out what's wrong) do the same steps as above to disable it but replace the 1 with a 0 and the 0 with a 1.

Fuzzy: How do you get back to Version 1.3 in SDC? I could do it in Componant Manager back when there was Companant Manager.

Under the view menu there is an option to show prerelease versions. If you uncheck it you should see 1.3 again.
