Icon Size on the Right Side of the Start Menu

Sunday, August 3, 2003 by deleted | Discussion: Stardock Software

I have Windows XP Home Edition, and I saw in this screeshot here (http://screenshots.haque.net/screenshots/view/4573/screenshot-4573.jpg) by Honz12 that the icons on the right side of his start menu (My Computer, Documents, etc.) are 32x32 as opposed to the 24x24 on my system. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

David, right-click your taskbar, go to properties. Under the 'Start Menu' tab, hit 'Customize'. On that screen you will see an option for Small or Large icons. In that screenshot, Honz has it set to Small Icons. Hope it helps.

That changes the size of the icons on the left from 32x32 to 16x16. I am trying to change the size of the icons on the right from 24x24 to 32x32. But thanks for trying hus, I appreciate it.

David I asked this very question on a previous occasion and was advised it could not be done?

I think XP's handling of icon sizes on the Start Menu is dismal. I would be very interested if anyone knows of a way to adjust it. I still use ObjectBar a lot under WinXP to be able to control the display of icons and fonts on the Start Menu.

I sent him an e-mail (why didn't I think of that, elvee ) and got a quick reply:

----------
All my normal icons are set to 64x64. This turns the start menu icons you're
talking about to
32x32.

You can change the icon size in the Display Properties (right click desktop and
select properties)
----------

But this changes all icons everywhere. I noticed, though, that the icons on his desktop are still 32x32, yet he has large icons selected. How did he pull that off???

Okay, I e-mailed honz another time and this is his method of changing the icon size on the startmenu, without changing the rest of the system:

----------
well spotted, you got my secret!
OK, first of all, the only place that the icons on my system would appear at 64x64 is on my desktop. In all my folders I keep them set at 'view as details' so they are all 16x16. All I done was made some 64x64 icons but used a 32x32 image inside the space. I didn't do this for all my icons, just the ones which appeared on the desktop (two folders and the trash.)

And thank god he is a nice person, or else I probably would have been shot for nagging him

I manipulated the icons like he did using the Microangelo Studio 21-day evaluation.
