Editing a boot skin?

Im some what new at this....
I am trying to make a complete theme (boot skin, logon, cursors, sounds)
so far its been going pretty good but ive run into one problem...
HOW DO I EDIT A BOOT SKIN?
i know how to create them...
what i want to do it take the original XP boot screen and edit it? any help would be appreciated
