Networking With Windows 7
32 bit and 64 bit
Wednesday, August 11, 2010 by RedneckDude | Discussion: Windows 7
Guys I need help. I have two PCs and a laptop. All running win 7 home premium. I have 64 bit on one PC and the lappy, 32 bit on the other PC.
The 64 bit rigs can access files on the 32 bit rig. The 32 bit rig sees the 64 bit rigs but can't access them. Can't even share a printer from 64 bit to 32 bit.
All sharing settings are the same on all 3 rigs.
Anyone know why?

To use Window 7's builtin wireless router use this freeware utility.

I have an internet connection on all 3 rigs. I just need to access one and can't.

Because it's you? ....
There shouldn't be a problem with 32 vs 64 ....as I have both seeing each other...no trouble at all.
More likely a case of 'permissions' in sharing ....
I'll go over it again, but I'm certain I have all three rigs configured the same.

I bet you haven't. If the 32 rig 'sees' the 64 but cannot access the 64's files/drives then it's the sharing permissions of the 64's drives that's the problem.
Networking with Win7 is pretty idiot-proof [assuming a standard class of idiot, naturally] - especially since I can do it...![]()

The other day, day after my brother passed, I was out of the house and someone here needed to print from my wife's PC. The wireless printer is acting up, so someone came in here and did something in order to allow my wife to access the printer that I want to access now.
I dunno what they did, but now I can't access the printer from my wife's rig. Or anything else for that matter.

OK, Jafo. You win. It was a permissions thing. I had to go deep into the permissions to get to it, a place I've never been before.
Seems to be fixed now, tho. Crow sucks.....![]()

I had to go deeply into permissions and add NETWORK to the permissions list.
Everyone used to cover it, it seems. I never had to mess with that setting before.
Now homegroups might actually work too, ya think?
