Windowblinds 4 - 1st attempt - request feedback

Thursday, September 4, 2003 by NetBadger | Discussion: Skinning

After enjoying all the great work on here by others, I decided to make a humble attempt at making a Window Blinds 4 skin. The URL to download it is:

http://www.badger.org/temp/Corporate_Marble_XP.wba

It is almost done (or so I think at the moment), excluding the max, min, close buttons and a few other tweaks.

I thought I saw somewhere you could include a graphic for the desktop wallpaper (I was just going to put a tileable item so it would fit all monitor resolutions), but I haven't been able to find it again.

I appreciate anyone taking the time to look at it and give me some feedback and suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Hi badgerorg, hmmmmmm...IMO it still needs a lot of work,I didnt care for the start menu mouseovers.I can see the effects of tiling in the start menu.Submenus didnt have mouseovers.Dropdown menus were crowded. The overall effect for me was too flat and it seemed to all run together.(not enough contrast between elements......still,...its a good start, just needs refinement.

Hey that's not a bad concept for your first skin. You got a nice start going. You did the marble effect well. I would work on the buttons a little bit. They seem to flip upside down on mouseover which, for me, is a little disconcerting, but you may have intended that effect - the flipping over, not the disconcerting effect
As Brainiac said it seems a little flat. Nothing really wrong with flat just maybe a little more 3d or definition between elements.
Keep going! You're off to a good start.

Gee, feedback so quickly and from skinners
You caught me on the short cut for the button mouseover. I did a vertical flip to try and give it the pressed down look. Back to photoshop to do it the right way now. I'm not particularly happy with the start button mouse over either.

I really do appreciate the feedback. I see skins put up before they really should be. I wanted to do some of this back end work, so when I finally do submit it, people might think I really know what I'm doing.

Thanks again!

Needs some work IMO, however I am not sure if the concept is 'ok'.

You might want to lose some marble, try to replace some pieces with another color (like brown for example.) you also might want to add some detailes.

oh, and the right side of the startmenu is stretched, you better tile it.

no offence, nice going for a first timer
