program choice

hello, i am fairly new to the skinning and I want to have a nice computer layout and I want to customise it as much as possible.
I already have a logon that I like and I would now like to customise the rest of my computer
I also have all the icons I want that I made and applied myself but the rest I amnot sure on.
I need to get hold of a few things
-logon picture (easy to get)
-desktop background (again easy to get and apply)
-and a windows shell (browser windows e.c.t)
the last one is hard to decide on and I dont know which program to use as there are so many.
could someone plese help me decide on what shell mod program is best and has a wid range of skins o I can find one that I like
by shell I mean the start bar and all the windows stuff like that.

ok sounds good, im fairly good with computers its just I havent skinned anything besides wmp before so its like being in london for the first time

thanks very much for telling me about litestep, I really like it even though its a bugger to find one that not only looks good and you like but is easy to use too.
I'll probably get around to making my own perfect one sooner or later
