what software do you guys use to create images like the ones in wallpapers and stuff?

Catchy thread title... not 
The most commomn apps used are Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and Bryce. It's not the program, so much as how it's used.
My preference is Paint Shop Pro 8 ...... it rocks, cost much less than Photoshop.

true, if you are just starting I would recome paintshop pro, or just find some 'tryals'.
A good 3d program is 3ds max. A 'easy style' 3d program is bryce

Theres no mention of Terragen! http://planetside.co.uk One of its main features is, its free. Also, check out some of my pictures created with Terragen by clicking on my Screen Name and then clicking, "View Authors Skins" Also, Im no expert Terragen-er, so, dont think thats the best anyone can do.
