NEW ORLEANS -- Two members of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill response died today in unrelated events.
At approximately 7 a.m. the Unified Command at the Incident Command Post in Mobile was notified that a master of a Vessel of Opportunity (VOO) died in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Gulf Shores Police Department is conducting an investigation. Questions should be directed to (251) 968-2431.
The Unified Command at the Incident Command Post in Houma, La. was notified of the death of a subcontractor. The death was not associated with the member’s Deepwater Horizon Response duties. The incident is being investigated by the Gretna Police Department. Questions should be directed to (504) 363-1700.
Incident commanders from Houma and Mobile expressed their thoughts and prayers for the friends and family members of the lost members of the response teams.

The truth would keep us awake nights. Makes best sellers. And is hard to prove.

The buck will stop at the person of the BP rig manager who made the ultimate calls against halting the drilling operations when certain safety related problems were called to his attention. Whether it will stop with him or go further up the BP chain of command cannot be determined until a committee of congress or other agency of government exercises subpoena power to compel the attendance of witnesses at hearings yet to be held. My guess is that it will at least reach the Houston office of BP. But from what is presently known, BP is the principal culprit. For starters, I can give you 20 billion reasons why that conclusion will be proven right. That is not to say that everyone else involved will be exhonorated. Just that BP will prove to be the most culpable party.

With the anger against BP for the spill...(even though it might actually turn out TransOcean was responsible for repair, maintenance and operation of the rig on a daily basis), I'm surprised they aren't selling hunting licenses down there.
Instead, they want more drilling. Not surprising...after all, most didn't go to higher education and for h.s. grads (and maybe non h.s. grads) they're making good money.
