I always felt the New York Times and Google was a good model, apparently this article make light of what I saw as a better way to advertise, better web design, cross marketing, and intelligent news that EDUCATES! Its it important to note that if you give a viewer something other than a migraine of pop ups and misplaced ads that could have just as well been informative or place somewhere else works.

been getting DSL for free for 2 months (even though I called both companies & tried to
straighten it out!) As for the Internet bursting it's bubble, I think that there have
always been lots of people using the Net--but there aren't many companies that ever
increased their profits from being online. It's the old good vs. evil thing: we all
want to be able to do things for ourselves, & seek out the best prices; whereas Big
Business wants to find another way to get our dollars into their pockets. Either way,
long live the Internet!!

Investors knew that business and society would be forever changed by the web. What they didn't know, is just how, where and when.
There is no "unbursting". we call this a shaking out.

Yes, I guess the bubble burst is really a 'shaking out'.
One thing in piticular that bugs me is internet advertiseing and the lack of thought behind it. It is not about links to another site. Sheeesh, it is about marketing and name brand reconition (just like on TV, Billboards, newspapers and magazines..) What the net does previde is a interaction. That interaction has to be understood and use in different ways as well as not used at all. Design is key.
I think that is starting with advertizing though, it might actually be possible for some (no where near all) sites to pay cost for running the site through advertising. Maybe a couple of years from now the internet ad thing will be different.
Don't get me started on web design.. ooohhh weee...

Mine has already done it twice since the start of the year, and their service is hardley even worth the amount they're asking.
