Review: BusLink USB 2.0 Disk On the Go Lite

USB 2.0 is pretty wonderful. One area that it really shines is in using it with the new tiny portable USB 2.0 hard drives (fireware available too).I picked up the Buslink one at Best Buy and it's been great. First off, it doesn't require an external power supply. So you can literally carry this 40 gig drive (20 gig model also available) around in your pocket. I carry all my "work" stuff on it which makes it easy to work on things at both home and work.
If you're looking for a portable hard drive that's fast and reliable, I recommend this one.

I bought a 30 Gig Storix drive from Best Buy and I love it. Its USB 2 and no external powersupply. It works great and this thing is about the size of a 4x6 index card and its only a little thicker than my old zip disks. Highly recommended.

I bought a 60gb one awhile back, made by ACOM Data @ BBuy, and I liked it so much, I went over to Ebay and picked up a Laptop HD, USB 2 enclosure. It comes in real handy, if you happen to have you upgrade (left-overs)Laptop Drives, laying around and want to put them to use. You can pick them up for $20, do a search for USB 2.0 + Hard Drive + Case. They come with a cable, to either draw the power via the USB Port, or if needed via ps2, Port.

How does it work with USB 1.1 since USB 1.1 doesn`t supply power? I guess it uses an external supply right?

The voltage supplied to the drives are very small, and anything over 500 MA, or something like that ( i am not sure), requires a power draw from the ps2 port via a pass through connector. The only drawback is the bottle neck in the data transfer, from the slower controller.

I wouldn't mind an external 250GB Maxtor if you ask me
