Processors getting too fast for OSes?

Sources that reckon to know, claim Intel's 2.80GHz Pentium 4 part may not see the light of day because Windows doesn't like it.
Reports claimed that the speed of the chip causes Windows 2000 "to crash and burn."
While Windows XP doesn't like the speed of the processor, not one little bit.And it's not just Intel chips too, the claim continues. Athlon processors at high speeds are experiencing problems as well.We are contacting the chip companies to get their view on this, if they have a view, that is.
Our source claims, too, that slower P4s combined with faster chipsets – like the 845G and later throw up similar problems.
And, rather than have Microsoft address the problem head-on, Intel is prepared to allow the 2.8 Gig part to slip quietly from the limelight, the source claimed.
This, however, would seem to be extremely unlikely to us because its future depends on scaling the Pentium 4 to 2.8GHz and higher. AMD has similar ambitious plans.

Call me stupid or say that I don't know programming, but how can hardware run too fast for the software? Uneducated guess: isn't that only the case if one makes ones code dependent on hardware latency?

I don't know what the motivation behind this story is...but it is complete and utter BS. I have personally run both Win2000 and XP on P4's running at more than 3Ghz without a hitch. Out side of my own experience, I have two friends that also run P4's over 3Ghz without any problems. If you check around some of the overclocking sites, I think you'll find enough people that have broken the 3Ghz barrier without any problems.

I think all of u will find that overclocked PC's with over that will work and that the actual 'faster' CPU's won't. The reason the CPU won't work is that it will be at least 10x more complex, even though you can get the same speed. If you think about it properly, its easy.
